Hornepayne
H
ornepayne, the geographic centre of Ontario,
is nestled between Trans Canada Highway 17
and Highway 11 in the beautiful boreal forest. We are
surrounded by living and natural beauty. Snowmobile
and cross-country ski trails abound, and we enjoy fishing,
hunting, bird watching and anything outdoors in a laid-back
and casual atmosphere. Our community is the main stop
for the Canadian National Railway and the cross-Canada
VIA Passenger Train.
Our municipal airport has a 3,500 ft paved runway for both
private & charter aircraft use and our seaplane base offers
access to amazing fly-in resorts. We are on a quest for
continual improvement and quality of life that will make us
the place where people want to live, work, visit and invest.
We invite you to our remarkable little town to partake in the
beauty that surrounds us.

Hearst
I
n the heart of Northern Ontario, and the boreal forest,
you will find the moose capital of Canada, Hearst.
Hearst is a town within the Cochrane District. It is located
on the Mattawishkwia River, approximately 92 km west of
Kapuskasing, and 520 km east of Thunder Bay along Hwy
11. Hearst is largely defined by its forestry sector and its
entrepreneurial spirit. Hearst is a 94% French-speaking
community but remains energized by the cultural richness
meshed with Oji-Cree and Euro-Canadian heritage.
With its abundance of parks and green spaces, this
charming community is a wonderful place to visit. Hearst is
known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, including
hiking, kayaking, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling.
For those seeking an adrenaline rush, snowmobiling on
groomed trails during the winter month is a popular choice.
Hundreds of kilometres of groomed trails, allow Hearst to
remain one of the greatest snowmobile destinations. Come
enjoy the longest snowmobiling season in Ontario!
Culturally, the Conseil des Arts de Hearst is an organization
that supports and promotes the arts and culture in the
community by offering a diversity of artistic activities and
exhibits. The Écomusée de Hearst Ecomuseum showcases
the natural & cultural history of the area and a glimpse into
the lives of pioneers. Visit The Heritage Sawmill to learn
how the forest industry shaped the community.
