quickly break down some options we’ve loved from
over the years.
DRIVE IN TO EPIC FISHING
When people think ‘epic fishing’ they think remote,
inaccessible locations. There’s some truth to that
for sure, but this province is WILDLY big. There
are TONS of places you can drive to easily, and
experience untouched wilderness.
On one specific drive-in trip we explored the
Whalesback Channel of Lake Huron - SO, big water,
big fish. Smallmouth was our target species when
we visited, and we got into some tanks. On another
drive-in trip we found ourselves chasing both musky
and bass - got some nice smallmouth, and one
small (but mighty) musky. Still, was our buddies
first musky so that was sweet! But we’ve also done
drive-in spots for walleye, pike, trout, salmon and
steelhead. Algoma rules.
TRAIN TO REMOTE WATER
Looking to leave the car at home? Ride the rails into
a rugged landscape. We took the train from White
River into a remote lodge and fished a lake full of
pike and walleye. It’s super unique, taking the train
in, and the vibes riding in are next level. Sort of feels
like stepping back in time, and taking an adventure
from the past. Definitely recommend this approach
to Algoma exploration.
FLY INTO BIG ADVENTURE
Ontario is the land of the bush plane. We’ve got
some epic flight services across Algoma - all
amazing. We’ve flown with many of them to different
destinations around the province. There is NOTHING
better than loading up a float plane to head into
truly remote locations - you feel ‘out there’, and
the fishing is almost always incredible because of
that. Pack lighter than normal - there are weight
restrictions. But you will find no finer fishing than
fishing accessed by air.
Bottom line, go explore Northern Ontario. It’s such
a special and unique place, and if you’re keen on
adventure - GO! It’s impossible to see it all, but you
should try. Because around every bend, at the end
of every portage, you never know what you’ll find.
But it’ll be amazing.
