Freedom to stop at every lookout. My first Algoma trip
was the classic road trip. The trunk rattled with snacks,
playlists shuffled between classic rock and folk, and
we stopped constantly — at Pancake Bay to walk the
long sandy beach and of course at the towering Wawa
Goose for the obligatory roadside photo.
Whether you're planning a night out in Sault Ste. Marie,
exploring Bruce Mines, Blind River, Thessalon, Elliot
Lake and Spanish along the North Channel of Lake
Huron, or discovering northern treasures in Chapleau,
Hornepayne, or Hearst, Algoma is like a choose-yourown-adventure on four wheels: every sign pointing to a
“scenic lookout” is an invitation you should take.
TOURING BY MOTORCYCLE
If RVs are about comfort, motorcycles are about thrill.
I’ll never forget pulling into Old Woman Bay, cliffs
towering over the bike, Superior pounding the shore.
Every bend in the road delivered something new: pine
forests, rocky bluffs, sudden glimpses of water so
vast it looked like the sea. On two wheels, Algoma is
immediate. The smell of pine needles, the cool rush of
air in valleys, even Superior’s mist clinging to your visor
— it’s all part of the ride.
The Grand Algoma Tour is one of Ontario’s finest rides,
a mix of sweeping shoreline curves and rolling inland
stretches and the twists and turns of Highway 129.
TOURING BY SNOWMOBILE
Most people think of Algoma in summer or fall,
but winter is when the region feels truly wild. On a
snowmobile, frozen rivers become highways, trails wind
through forests, and lakes lies locked beneath ice.
Snowmobiling in Algoma offers a perfect mix of
excitement, peace and welcome: from the sound of
snowmobiles on trails to the quiet under snow-covered
pines and the hospitality of Algoma communities.
Looking back, each trip felt like meeting Algoma all
over again. In a car, I discovered its highlights. In an RV,
I lingered longer. On a motorcycle, I felt every curve.
And in winter, on a snowmobile, I saw a side of Algoma
few experience.
That’s Algoma’s magic: no matter how you travel, it
always finds a way to surprise you.
