gems on Lake Huron’s North Shore, all surrounded by stunning Canadian scenery.
SERPENT RIVER
A must-stop on any road trip along the scenic North
Shore is the popular Serpent River Trading Post. Located
on the Trans-Canada Highway in Serpent River First
Nation, this well-known Anishinaabe trading post is the
perfect place to stop, shop, and snack. Peruse authentic
and beautiful Indigenous arts and crafts, and load up on
road trip essentials like fudge, beef jerky, ice cream, and
locally caught pickerel and chips.
If you are passing through Serpent River First Nation on
the weekend following the August Civic Holiday, make
sure to attend the Genaabaajiing Traditional Pow Wow,
one of the largest cultural gatherings on the North Shore.
A beautiful celebration of the Anishinabek community’s
deep connection to the land. Soak in the vibrant
atmosphere with inspiring drummers and dancers,
shop for unique Indigenous arts and crafts, and enjoy
traditional food under the summer sun.
