The Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen
Additional is located along the shores of Lake George,
30 km (18 mi) east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is
characterized by a vast vista of the rural countryside. As
one of Central Algoma’s largest municipalities, this area
offers its citizens and tourists access to all conveniences
found within the larger communities. Access to several
freshwater inland lakes, together with the region’s
wooded areas, creates the opportunity for endless winter
and summer activities. The beauty of this area is further
enhanced by the existence of several species of wildlife.
Echo Bay is home to the Loon Dollar Monument as
well as multiple parks. Located at 67 Church Street is
Hurley Park, which has a newly renovated Accessible
playground and a multi-use Sport Court that includes a
tennis court, a pickleball court, a basketball court and a
ball hockey area.
Our Sportsplex is located at 83 Bay Street and has full
arena amenities, recreational fields, the Milligan Gazebo
with two children's play areas and a beach volleyball
court.

JOHNSON TOWNSHIP
Established in 1889, Johnson Township is located 60 km
east of Sault Ste. Marie is on the Trans-Canada Highway
17 and is home to the hamlet of Desbarats. With access
to the beautiful North Channel of Lake Huron, we are
home to several freshwater lakes that are excellent
for fishing, paddling, swimming, boating, and more.
Johnson Township is a vibrant agricultural community
with a seasonal Farmers’ Market supported by the local
Mennonite community. Home to the Central Algoma
Land Trust conservation authority, the Central Algoma
Elementary/Intermediate/Secondary School(s) and the
Johnson Township Community Centre and Arena.
We provide a full range of recreational events and
programs, including winter and summer community
festivals, the annual Fishing Derby, ATV Poker Run, and
the Big Buck Contest. Along with the North Shore (youth)
Slo-Pitch & Soccer Associations, and home to the North
Channel Lightning Minor Hockey Association and the
Shamrock Figure Skating Club.
The Voyageur Trail, the Waterfront Trail Cycle Route
and major snowmobile and ATV trails pass through the
township.
