THESSALON
Thessalon invites you to come and #DiscoverThessalon;
a small town with a big sense of community, beautiful
beaches, small-town shops and outdoor adventures all
seasons of the year. The Town of Thessalon is located
off Highway 17, only 80 km east of Sault Ste. Marie. The
scenic Thessalon River runs through the town, leading
to the river mouth into Lake Huron, making Thessalon a
destination for water sports. Paddle, kayak or fish your
way along the river under the iconic Thessalon Red
Bridge that was initially built in the 1880s.
In the spring of 2024, Thessalon celebrated the opening
of the Thessalon Coastal Trail, which provides pristine,
hidden views of Lake Huron, including accessible trail
systems and lookouts, rugged routes for the seasoned
hiker, and a great experience for birders. Cyclers can visit
us by following the Trans Canada Trail and Great Lakes
Waterfront Trail system to see what we have in store.
In the winter, you can enjoy snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing on town-operated trail systems. Other
activities include curling, hockey, ice skating, ice fishing
and snowmachining, which will have you embracing the
winter months in Thessalon.
The Municipality of the Town of Thessalon operates
a full-service Marina, a fitness center, a full-service
MISSISSAGI VALLEY
The Mississagi Valley (Hwy 129) is a favourite destination
for artists, photographers, and nature lovers, as well as
anglers, hunters and motorsport enthusiasts. The many
lakes and streams of the Mississagi Valley are home
to trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike and
panfish.
Black bear, moose, deer and small game hunts are also
available. Spring, summer and fall are all great seasons
for ATVing in the Mississagi Valley. In the winter, enjoy ice
fishing; snowshoes and cross-country skis will let you
experience a different and exciting facet of nature in the
Mississagi Valley at one of several year-round resorts.
